How to Install and Activate a Vietnam eSIM Without Losing Your Home SIM

Yes—on a compatible, unlocked phone, you can usually add a travel eSIM and keep your home SIM installed. Install the travel profile while you have an internet connection, leave the home line on for calls or messages if your home plan supports them, set the travel line as mobile-data default, and disable automatic data switching until you verify the settings. Before you install

Check these four conditions before scanning a QR code or accepting an activation link:

1. eSIM support: Confirm the exact phone model and regional variant supports eSIM. A phone can support eSIM in one market but not another.
2. Carrier unlock: If you will use two different carriers, check that the phone is unlocked. On iPhone, Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock should show No SIM Restrictions. Ask the home carrier how to check an Android device.

4. Complete the onscreen steps. When asked to label lines, use unambiguous names such as Home and Vietnam travel.
5. Return to Settings > Cellular and confirm that both lines are listed. Turn on the travel line only after the profile appears.
6. Under Cellular Data, select Vietnam travel. Leave Allow Cellular Data Switching off while testing; otherwise the phone may use the other line for data.
7. Under Default Voice Line, select Home if you want outgoing calls to start on that line and your home plan allows service abroad. This setting does not guarantee that the home carrier will provide roaming service.

1. Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add SIM > Set up an eSIM.

3. When asked for SIM preferences, keep the home SIM available for calls or texts if your plan supports them, and choose the travel eSIM for mobile data.
